Empathy Foundation has been constructing new schools and repairing existing old Zilla Parishad schools, in the rural areas of Maharashtra. Along with this, toilets are built for girls and boys separately. We have till now built 128 schools in more than 16 districts of Maharashtra and 26 schools are under construction.
Under the healthcare initiative Empathy Foundation conducts free eyes camps for rural and urban poor. Up till now 690803 beneficiaries have been examined, 421471 free spectacles distributed, free medicines distributed to 52785 beneficiaries and 9352 cataracts operations performed.
Along with the Medical Education and Drugs dept. of Govt. of Maharashtra, we have embarked on a scheme to screen 2.25 Lakh rural women over a three years’ period for breast cancer. This initiative is in operation from 1st of October 2016.
Latur and rest of Marathawada in Maharashtra had monsoon failure for more than four years which resulted in water scarcity to the residents of Latur. We dug borewells, each connecting with 5 HP motor and a tank of 5000 liters for water storage in 150 villages. Also we have undertaken projects like deepening of wells, building reservoirs in other parts of Maharashtra to store rain water. In Jalna district during extreme water shortage we supplied 1400 ltrs of water for each family through tankers.
Empathy Foundation in collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre, a leading cancer Hospital in Mumbai, have been providing Palliative Home Care to terminally ill especially cancer patients at their home. We have funded two teams consisting of a Doctor, Nurse, Social worker, and driver in each team to visit homes of the cancer patients for pain relief treatment. In extreme cases they are transferred to the hospice for end of life care and treatment. We have under this program done 1036 home visits benefiting 5009 patients.
